Michael Carvelli

Michael Carvelli is currently a marketing strategist at West Virginia University, working with the WVU Esports program.

He graduated from WVU's Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism in 2013 with a degree in Print Journalism and worked at The Daily Athenaeum from 2010-13. During his time at The DA, he served as the Sports Editor from 2011-13. As a WVU student, he won West Virginia Press Association awards for Best Sports Columnist (2012), Best Sports Section (2012, 2013), and Best Sports Page (2013), and was Best Sports Columnist from the Society of Professional Journalists in 2013.

He's worked with WVU since 2018, starting as a member of the University's social media team where he helped manage and was involved in strategy and engagement for the official WVU social media accounts. They won Best Central Social Media Marketing Team of the Year from HigherEd Social in 2021. He also previously was a sports reporter at Blue & Gold News, the Clarksburg Exponent Telegram and the Charleston Gazette-Mail where he served as a beat writer covering WVU athletics and other colleges in West Virginia. While working at the Exponent Telegram, he won a West Virginia Press Association award for Best Sports Graphic Design in 2016.
