Marcus Riley

Marcus Riley is the Senior Director, Content Strategy and Inclusive Journalism for The E.W. Scripps Company. He has 30 years of experience in television broadcasting.
Marcus, a native of Toronto, Ontario, graduated from WVU in 1993 where he was a three-year captain of the men’s track team. His first broadcasting job was doing the early morning news at U92 where he eventually became news director and host of the Urban Diner music show.
Marcus first post-graduate job was as a general assignment reporter and weekend weather anchor at WBOY-TV in Clarksburg and WTRF in Wheeling. Hi career eventually evolved into the digital space. He’s spent most of his career in management positions, closing the gap between broadcast and digital in television newsrooms, including a 10-year stint at NBC Chicago. Marcus currently works with Scripps’ corporate team to help develop journalism strategy for its 41 stations and personally advises a dozen stations in the company’s northern region. He helped spearhead a startup FOX newsroom in Lansing Michigan in 2021 with a groundbreaking neighborhood news model. Marcus recently added Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion duties to his portfolio to help ensure Scripps’ newsrooms implement the necessary systems and processes to help create cultures that are representative of the communities they serve.
He served several terms on the Chicago Midwest NATAS Board, was Chapter President from 2012-2015, and multiple years on the National Board of Trustees. Marcus has won eight Regional Emmy Awards, two Edward R. Murrow Awards and was named the Wisconsin Social Media Personality of the Year in 2018.
